Broken bones, a young prodigy, and a simple shift...

Sup Daily Disc Golfer!

Just back from my Saturday morning round with my neighbor Brandon. I played well. I finished 5 down after carding 9 birdies. Where? Sunset Park, Las Vegas. Check the course on UDisc - click here.

Best shot of the day for me? 221' throw in from a deflection off a tree limb. SICK! (Doesn’t happen for me too often, so I was thrilled.) 🤩

THIS WEEK’S 2 SCOOPS:
SCOOP #1: Paige Pierce Broken Foot Update!

Let's talk resilience and the incredible spirit of comebacks.

Remember the 5x World Champ, our very own Paige Pierce?

Ah, July wasn't exactly the month she’d hoped for. Picture this: the serene European Open practice ground, a tricky bridge, and an unexpected slip that led to a broken bone in her foot. As she’d put it on her recent IG post, she's now rocking a brand-new cast after a successful surgery. Yep, our fierce champion is in high spirits, despite the setback.

Here's the inside scoop from her post:

“Got my stitches out today! But, there’s a solid 4 weeks of no pressure on my ankle ahead. After that, it's boot time and then let the PT games begin. Another 4 weeks, and the docs think I might just be back to doing some sort of ‘athletic activity’.”

A rapid return by mid-September?

Well, miracles do happen.

But a more realistic guess?

She could be spinning discs at the MVP Open by late September. But here's the juicy bit – will she decide to come back and face-off against the current world #1, Kristin Tattar, this season?

Now, here's where I need your take, fellow Daily Disc Golfer…

Should Paige make her grand return this season?

Or, given the circumstances, would it be wiser to wait for the next?

I mean, come on, who doesn't love a fierce comeback story? Especially from a champ like Paige. But hey, health first, right?

Whatever the call, we’re behind you, Paige!

Keep the spirit high and the discs higher. 🥏

SCOOP 2: Is Cole Redalen here to stay?

Straight from the muddy fairways of Peoria, Illinois…

You know, the ones where the Discraft Ledgestone Open just went down?

So, picture this: It's a Saturday evening, and Cole Redalen has just battled what's arguably the gnarliest woods course on tour. And after hours of rain and muck, this 18-year-old phenom padded his lead by 2. But when asked about his big evening plans?

Classic Cole. "Eat some chicken and rice with salsa and cheese, then off to sell some frisbees.”

Chef’s kiss. Talk about keeping it real in the middle of a high-stakes tourney!

But let's rewind a bit. Eureka Lake was like looking into a still, serene mirror during round one. Memories of 2022's scores? Shattered.

This year, Heimburg and Robinson pulled a whopping 12-under par. Fast forward to the dread-filled Northwood Black, and it's a muddy mess. Trees down, fairways like soup, and pros trying to avoid slipping and sliding.

Now, Mr. Redalen, this Oregon wunderkind, was on fire.

Imagine missing only two greens on the par 3s and birdieing like there’s no tomorrow.

And folks, the weather? Yikes.

Nearly seven inches of rain dumped in just 6 hours.

But Redalen? Smooth as a fresh jar of peanut butter.

He rolled into championship Sunday with all eyes on him.

Would he crumble? Spoiler: Nope.

Right out of the gate, two birdies and a string of plays that had us all dropping our jaws.

Now, let's not forget the wild aces that Marwede and Heimburg pulled off. Crowd-roaring, mind-bending stuff.

But our main man Cole?

Steady. Calm. Cool. Collected.

So when the dust (or should I say mud?) settled, it was Redalen reigning supreme.

Never won a major before this, but we're betting our bottom dollar this ain’t his last.

And as the cameras zoomed in, that young lad became every bit the 18-year-old he is, till a chat with DGN’s Terry Miller brought out the mature champ in him, giving a heartwarming shout-out to his folks.

So what's the lesson here?

Never underestimate the underdog, and always remember, behind every great champ, there's a plate of chicken and rice.

Is Cole your pick to win Worlds this year? Hit reply, let me know! 👋🥏🎉

DAILY DISC GOLFER OF THE WEEK:

PDGA Member: Steven Dodge
PDGA #: 22042

Ever heard of a little place called Maple Hill?

Or maybe, the MVP Open?

Well, pull up a seat, because you’re about to get schooled on a legend named Steven Dodge - or Steve, if you’re on his BFF list.

I snagged some time with Steve this week, and boy, was it an enlightenment session.

Ever thought about the makings of a top-tier disc golf property?

Well, Steve’s got the blueprint.

And guess what?

It ain’t all about perfect grass and discs!

One of the gold nuggets he dropped had me gobsmacked: "Remember, EVERY disc golfer loves to watch their discs fly downhill."

MIND. BLOWN. 🤯

Simple, right? But that’s the beauty of genius – it’s often staring right at ya.

Now, Maple Hill didn't sprout overnight.

Picture this: a young Steve and a couple of buddies, a truck, a couple of chainsaws, some shovels, and an Everest-sized dream.

Fast forward, and voilà, it's touted as the numero uno disc golf destination globally.

Been there?
What's your verdict?

As you know, there's a DGPT Elite event brewing at Maple Hill in a couple weeks.

And man, Steve and his team are all about serving the greatest experience possible. More action, more spectator spots, and - get this - swanky new bathroom facilities!

The MVP Open is gonna be LIT! 🚀

Hats off, Steve. You took disc golf from backyard fun to prime-time glamour.

Here’s to you, for raising the game and making us all dream bigger.

Cheers, mate! 🍻

Your move! Played Maple? Planning to attend the MVP Open? I’d love your first hand perspective on the property. All feedback is good feedback if you’re listening! #DodgeTheLegend
