COREY ELLIS "THE CHAIN ANTAGONIST" – THE LEGACY IN PROGRESS

In the world of disc golf, few players make as grand an impact in such a short time as Corey Ellis, affectionately known as "The Chain Antagonist."

From the hills of West Virginia to the expansive fields of Nokia, Finland, Ellis's rise to fame is nothing short of meteoric, but his story is not just about the wins – it’s about the journey, the commitment, and a young boy’s passion for the sport.

THE BEGINNING

Corey's journey began at Rotary Park in Huntington, WV, where at a tender age of five, his father introduced him to the world of disc golf.

Those innocent throws, combined with the strong bond with his father and the scenic backdrop of Rotary Park, solidified his love for the sport.

Fast forward to 2017, Ellis stamped his authority as West Virginia's top player, turning many heads in the disc golf community.

And while some were content with local victories, Ellis had his eyes set on the horizon, dreaming of national and international conquests.

This drive saw him break records with astonishing feats like a 93.2% C1x putting percentage in a single season.

SHAPING THE JOURNEY

From devouring footage of past champions during his evening study sessions to sneaking in practice rounds during lunch breaks, Ellis’s dedication was undeniable.

And it was this unwavering commitment that caught the attention of Shaffer Sports Management, who became his agent in 2022, setting the stage for his meteoric rise.

But every disc golfer has their favorites, and for Corey, it's the Idlewild in Burlington, KY, and the Rotary Park.

When asked about his go-to discs, he swears by the Big Z Zeus for those long drives, the ESP Glo Buzzz for mid-range shots, and the Rubber blend challenger for those crucial putts.

A DREAM REALIZED

The highlight of Ellis's career came in 2023 at the European Open, a premier PDGA-sanctioned event where the world's best come to compete.

With the world watching, Ellis put on a performance for the ages, finishing the event at an astounding 33-under-par, and bringing home his first major title.

This victory wasn’t just a personal achievement, but a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and a burning passion for disc golf.

A NOD TO THE PAST, AN EYE ON THE FUTURE

Corey fondly recalls the 2009 Disc Golf Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where, as a 12-year-old, he watched in awe as top players cleared a 600-foot lake.

That event, combined with the rise of YouTube, ignited a spark in young Ellis, making him realize that maybe, just maybe, he could turn his passion into a profession.

Today, with over 45 career wins and counting, a contract with Discraft, and a legacy in the making, Ellis stands shoulder to shoulder with legends like Paul McBeth, pushing boundaries and setting new standards for the sport.

ENDING NOTE

Corey Ellis is not just a star athlete; he's an inspiration. His story is a powerful reminder that with passion, dedication, and hard work, dreams can come true.
