Estonian Dynamo Strikes Again:
How Kristin Tattar's Disc Golf Game Flew to the Top
Ever met someone who stumbles upon a sport in their twenties and soon becomes the face of that game on a global scale?
No?
Well, allow me to introduce the princess of disc golf, the one and only, Kristin Tattar.
Recently, she made jaws drop (yet again) by bagging the 2023 Disc Golf World Championships in Jeffersonville, VT.
And guess what?
It's her second win in a row!
Talk about nailing the sequel.
The Rising Star from Estonia
Kristin Tattar, 29, hailing from Estonia, didn't touch a disc golf until she was 20.
And now?
She's setting the disc golf world on fire, literally!
If you ever scroll down the Female Professional Open (FPO) division rankings (you know, during those endless lunch breaks), you'd find this Baltic dynamo consistently at the top.
She's that coworker who always aces their assignments - consistent and brilliant.
Sure, there were a few exceptions, but the girl's got a collection of titles under her belt: U.S. Women's Disc Golf Championship in 2019 (Yep, that happened) and three wins at the Disc Golf Pro Tour.
If Disc Golf had a Walk of Fame, Kristin's star would be in the center.
She also claimed the #1 spot in the Disc Golf World Rankings earlier in 2022 (and has kept it EVER SINCE!)
Go big or go home, right?
Did you hear about her sponsorship gig?
Latitude 64°, a renowned disc golf equipment brand from Sweden, dished out one of the largest contracts for an FPO player in 2021.
Around $500,000 USD, folks!
How's that for a trip to the bank?
All About Kristin
Alright, time to delve a bit deeper.
Kristin comes from the coastal city of Pärnu in Estonia.
Growing up, volleyball was her jam, thanks to mom's pal who was a coach.
But, a twist in the tale – she shifted her loyalties to cross-country skiing.
Ever noticed how her form in disc golf looks like poetry in motion?
Yep, her athletic background is to thank.
However, pushing her body beyond its limits made her bid goodbye to skiing after high school.
It's like she took a detour from skiing and guess what?
Stumbled upon disc golf in the picturesque northeastern Estonia.
(Now, that’s a story for the grandkids!)
With a newly born daughter, Isabel, in tow, Tattar plunged into the world of disc golf in 2014.
And there was no looking back!
From a novice to the pinnacle of the sport, her journey was nothing short of a blockbuster.
Unraveling the Disc Golf Mastery
Imagine this – you try a sport for giggles, and bam, you win a national title in the very first year.
Sounds like a dream, right?
But that's classic Kristin for you.
Her friends nudged her to compete, and she emerged as the Estonian Champion.
Soon, she became a household name in Baltic countries and made her mark in the U.S. by 2017.
A downside?
Disc golf had no formal coaching.
So, Kristin, like many of us trying DIY projects during quarantine, was mostly winging it, learning from trial and error.
But with time, her self-doubt vanished.
Thanks to her partner and fellow disc golfer, Silver Lätt, for that much-needed pep talk.
The duo did a U.S. tour, and Tattar clinched the 2019 U.S. Women's Disc Golf Championship.
Take that, self-doubt!
Sealing the Deal
Remember the mega-deal with Latitude 64°?
It wasn't a fluke.
When the Swedes labeled Kristin a "world class athlete," they weren't just being polite.
The company saw gold in her and she embraced the challenge with grace.
"I always saw disc golf as a hobby, but that contract? It's official. I'm living the dream!”
Concluding Tidbits
Here's the deal: Tattar's genuine passion for disc golf, coupled with her fierce determination, makes her the player she is today.
With people like Lätt and her understanding daughter cheering her on, the sky's the limit.
All in all, it's been a wild ride for Kristin, from the snowy trails of Estonia to the greens of disc golf.
Just goes to show, you never know where life's going to take you!
So, the next time you're pondering over trying something new, just think of Kristin and dive right in.
Who knows?
You might just become the next big thing!
