MAJOR Problems Disc Golfers Are Facing Right Now...
Plus Some "Off-Arm" Magic Pro-Tips From Coach T.
Me and Monster played Mountain Crest here in the Las Vegas Valley today. Twice! Ha. I was +1, and then -5 on the rounds.
Monster tied her season’s best at +15, and then she shot 1 better the following round. Her putting is LIGHTS OUT atm!!
Hope you got a chance to huck some plastic this weekend too!
Let’s get into today’s newsletter…

THIS WEEK’S SCOOP:
The MAJOR Problems Disc Golfers Are Facing…
Garbage, long grass, tee pad erosion, and no bathrooms are on top of the list.
Let's take a trip down memory lane.
Remember when your grandpa used to brag about that one time he almost hit a birdie?
I mean, heck, the game of disc golf has evolved so dramatically that even gramps would drop his dentures in disbelief if he saw what's happening today.
The Evolution of Disc Golf: 20 Years in the Making
Close your eyes.
Visualize 1998.
Y2K panic, frosted tips, the macarena, the Clinton scandal.
Now, the disc golf scene?
There were a quaint 4,776 PDGA members, and a mere 329 sanctioned events that took place.
Fast forward, or as I'd say, whoosh into the future, and 2023 greets us with over 28,861 members and a dizzying 2,368 events.
Whoa. Mind. Blown.
Speaking of whooshes, let's talk distances.
Think of Scott Stokely's monumental throw of 693 feet in '98.
Scott Stokely STILL bombs!!
Felt big, right?
Enter Simon Lizotte in 2017 who casually parks a 726-foot shot during a tourney.
David Wiggins Jr. and Simon Lizotte exchanging daps on the bombs they just threw.
And David Wiggins Jr.?
David Wiggins Jr. Launches a Bomb
He's out here smashing world records like they're fragile china, beating Stokely's mark by almost 400 feet!
Talk about some air-time.
Oh, and speaking of changes - twenty-something years back, the iconic Eagle McMahon was just, well, an idea in the stork’s delivery plans. (Wink!)
Here’s a 4:40 video of ALL the world record distance throws.
WARNING: Only watch it if you want to feel insignificant compared to these deep bombers!! haha.
But let's get real for a sec.
The most gobsmacking transformation?
The dramatic shift in our playgrounds.
Imagine having just 851 places to launch your discs in '98 with nearly a quarter of the states having fewer than ten courses.
Fast forward to today's glorious landscape of almost 6,000!
Only one state in our star-spangled nation doesn't hit the double-digit mark.
I mean, come on, who's slacking?
This evolution has people's eyebrows rising higher than my failed hyzer attempts.
Disc golf is soaring to the top, being dubbed one of the fastest-growing sports in the land of the free.
But, is bigger always better?
Time to get a little nosy and prod at the quality behind this quantity.
Onto What The Survey Says…
A recent study was done to ask over 150 “avid disc golfers” (who play A LOT, AND have design experience) what the biggest problems of the sport are.
In fact, many of these cool cats have had their hands dirty, literally, designing and developing courses over the past few months.
Further, the majority of them are between 25-35 years old, and pretty darn educated.
After reviewing the answers, let’s spill the beans.
What’s Bugging the Best?
Based on the data, we pinpointed what's grinding gears out there on the greens.
The major groans?
Missing course maps, a lack of restrooms (come on, a disc golfer's gotta go!), and trash littering our beautiful courses.
But hey, it's not all doom and gloom.
Most aren’t losing sleep over off-leash pups or some creepy crawlies.
I mean, who doesn't love a good challenge, right?
And course design?
Here's the tea.
Tee pads are slipping (literally), being uneven, or too short.

Not to mention, a few courses are, dare I say, a snoozefest?
Conclusion? Gimme the Lowdown!
What’s the verdict, my Daily Disc Golfer fam?
What hurdles do you see in our beloved sport? Do you agree with these? Is there something I overlooked? Let me know.
Wrapping it all up, here’s the insight we need to lock arms around…
Our sport is in the lime light.
The right people are continuing to get involde with things like prize money, new course builds, and sponsorships, but here's the deal – it's up to us to mold its future.
So, gear up, grip your discs, and let’s carve out a future filled with aces, yes?
Catch you on the flip side!
PRO-TIP:
Are You Using Your Off Arm?
I stumbled upon this game-changing video by Coach T, the maestro behind Slingshot Disc Golf, and trust me, it's a must-watch.
Want to add more oomph to your throws? 🚀
Turns out, the secret's been hanging right beside you - your off-arm.
That's right, Coach T reveals the untapped power of the off-arm and how it can seriously level up your game.
He doesn't just stop at theories; Coach T dives deep, illustrating practical ways you can sync your off-arm into your throws.
But what sealed the deal for me?
His analysis of the legendary Paul McBeth.
As we know, Paul has been crushing it in disc golf for nearly 20 years, and a significant chunk of his success boils down to that crafty off-arm technique.
🎥 Watch the video now and uncover the magic for yourself right now. It’s only 5:34 long.
Transform your game, harness the power you never knew you had, and soon, you might just be giving McBeth a run for his money! 😉
