The Disc Golf Pro Tour playoffs are hurtling towards us faster than a speed driver off the tee. Before we delve into the thick of it (or thick of the woods, if we’re being course-specific), let's chat about the main attraction.

Maple Hill: A Course to Behold

If Disc Golf were a monarchy, Maple Hill would be its crown jewel. Think about it - tight wooded lines that challenge even the pros, elevation changes that keep everyone guessing, water carries to spice things up, and oh, that view! 

Meandering through a Christmas tree farm, you might just feel you’re in a festive disc golf fairy tale.

Can you picture it?

The whisper of leaves, the distant plash of water, and the scent of Christmas in the air?

Now, picture this. Grandstands behind hole 1, where you, yes you, get to witness those heart-pounding opening shots.

Then there's the band of merry misfits – the “8 holes” gang, cheering their lungs out at hole 8’s island green.

Can you even? 🤩

And it doesn’t stop there.

Whether you're a dye-hard disc aficionado attending disc dying clinics or a night owl craving those after-dark glow rounds, Maple Hill's got something for every soul.

Also, rumor has it there’s a shiny $20,000 CTP contest on Friday evening. Show me the money! 💸

The Throwback: When Ellis, Carlsson & Lizotte Showed Down

Now, for a quick blast from the past.

Remember when Corey Ellis was leading the pack only to have his dreams slightly crushed?

The tie with Linus Carlsson and Simon Lizotte?

Hot Gossip & Four Sizzling Stories We’re Tracking

1. Simon Lizotte's Comeback? 
   After the drama last year, everyone's wondering if our boy Simon, now the fresh face of MVP, is gonna do it again. Especially with the Disc Golf Pro Tour standings showing him chilling at 10th. C'mon, Simon, give us that sweet playoff sweep!
   

2. The Cutline Drama: Robert Burridge, Chandler Kramer, Paul Ulibarri - just a few names teetering on the edge of DGPT glory. One wrong move and they might miss their Tour Championship shot. Talk about suspense!
   

3. Forget Million Dollar Shots: $20,000 in a CTP contest is where it's at. The rules? Simple! Ace it, and the money's all yours. Let's just say we're pumped to see who takes home the bacon.
   

4. United Series Finale: Eyes on Missy Gannon, the reigning queen of the US standings. Ella Hansen and Holyn Handley aren’t far behind. But, remember Ohn Scoggins' epic comeback? Yeah, things are about to get interesting.

The super-charged 2023 United States Disc Golf Championship & the fierce Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship are swaying the trees at the iconic Winthrop Arena from October 5th to 8th.

Oh, honey, the USDGC is a PDGA Pro Major (yeah, the big leagues), and the TPWDGC is flaunting its PDGA A-tier status!

Swanky, right?

🎖 USDGC - A Trip Down Memory Lane:
So, “How on Earth did the USDGC burst into our world?”

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, with a sprinkle of humor and a dash of "did-you-know."

Once upon a sunny afternoon (or maybe it was cloudy, who's keeping tabs?), three spirited wizards of the disc golf world – Harold Duvall, Jonathan Poole, and Dave Dunipace – were probably sipping on their favorite brews, when bam!

The metaphorical lightbulb above their heads shone brighter than my neon discs.

These lads, with a nod to the golfing legends of yesteryears (shoutout to the golfing grannies and grandpas out there), brainstormed an event that was bound to drop some jaws. And oh boy, did it!

Enter stage right: The USDGC. 

Now, this wasn’t just any ol’ event. No siree!

With its dazzling course that could make any disc golfer weak in the knees, its cheeky twists, and a qualifying routine that made folks go, “They did what now?”, the USDGC wasn’t here to play.

It was here to slay.

Forget simply joining the big leagues; this champ was on a mission to redefine them!

And between you and me, if the USDGC were a person, it'd be the cool kid at school everyone wanted to be pals with. The one with the rad sneakers, epic playlist, and a knack for hitting every trick shot.

Yep, that's the vibe!

So, dear disc golfer, next time you're prepping for a throw, or casually chatting with fellow disc lovers, drop this tidbit of history.

And remember, every great story starts with a dream (or in this case, three dreamers and a couple of beers).

Last Years Winners:

🚀 1. Gannon Buhr: From 'Almost' to 'Nailed It!' 

“Ever feel like déjà vu is just life winking at you?”

So, last year, there’s Gannon Buhr, all decked out, leading the pack at the USDGC. That final hole is staring him down, probably whispering, "Remember Las Vegas?" For those living under a disc, that’s where our man Gannon got so close but then… well, things slid south.

Literally.

His upshot in Vegas? A smidge too much zest and off it went, skipping out of bounds. Result? Heartbreak hotel.

But here’s where the universe decided to throw some good juju his way. Fast forward to that climactic moment at the USDGC in 2022.

A shot eerily mirroring Vegas starts to glide, teasing us all as it heads for the ledge.

I bet you were holding your breath, weren’t ya?

But this time, fate smiled, or maybe Gannon’s disc just really liked that spot.

Close to the pin and looking all victorious.

From what I saw that day?

Betting against Gannon's putt would be like betting against the sun rising—plain silly. The dude was on fire.

Congrats, Gannon, on the first of what we predict will be many more Ws. 🏆

💥 2. Catrina Allen: Rise, Fall, Rise Stronger! 

“Life’s all about the comebacks, isn’t it?”

Enter Catrina Allen. She kicked off the 22’ season with fireworks, bagging a win with her brand-spankin’ new DGA discs.

Everyone, including my neighbor's cat, thought, "This is Cat's year!" And oh boy, she didn't disappoint for most of the part, snagging top 10 finishes like they were going out of fashion.

But then, a slight hiccup. The kind where your throws betray you and you’re left scratching your head. Four events, and let's just say, they weren’t classic Catrina.

But Winthrop 22’ was different.

Like a phoenix, she soared.

Boyfriend Austin Hannum, wearing the coach cap, tweaked her swing, and voila!

Off the tee, she was sheer poetry in motion.

And that putting confidence? If it were a song, it’d top the charts!

So, here’s raising a toast to Catrina for reminding us that the game’s not over till it’s over.

Another big win in the bag, or as she hinted, another major? You decide. 😉🥇
